Japan Unit: Plate Tectonics, Part 2...

We had a follow- up lesson on plate tectonics this afternoon.  We had to wait until Miss A got home from public school, since she didn't want to miss it (it involved oreos...).

First we watched two videos on youtube.
Tectonics Explanation Video
It's a great two minute background explanation.

Then this:
Tectonics Catchy Song Video
which we are all now singing and can't get out of our heads.

I printed out a map coloring page showing all the plate boundaries on earth.  As we talked about each kind of boundary, we reproduced them with oreos!  It was a big hit.  With me too.  Who doesn't like oreos?  I got the idea off pinterest (of course), but the link went to some page that doesn't work anymore.  But there really isn't much to it.  We talked about each one, made it in oreo form, and marked them on the maps.

Top, transform on left, convergent on right.  Bottom, divergent on left, and the right to show how plates move on the mantle and to have an extra to eat.
(And wow!  My table is messy.)

Here's Miss A's map.
