Star Wars Party: The Decorations...

For Miss A's Star Wars party, I of course plumbed the wonderful depths of Pinterest. I thought these signs for the treats were great. We downloaded a Star Wars esque font for free, and printed out the signs on some scrap paper I had, and taped them to black paper. Pretty easy.

For the table cloths I used some red fabric I had, with my old blue baby sling on top of it...

I had the girls color some pictures to hang on the cabinets to spice things up a bit. I like Miss M's At At Walker. Nice and colorful.

And then I had them draw some pictures with colored chalk on black paper to hang on the sliding glass door. (I used my fabulous drawing skills on the star destroyer and the x-wing. The rest was all Miss A.)

Miss M drew a nebula.

And Miss A drew her own Death Star.
The hit of the party was the pinata...

Grandma made it by paper mache-ing a beach ball. Then B cut a hole out to get the deflated ball out and put the candy in. He closed it with a paper bowl, which doubled as the shooty part of the Death Star.

He even made a window for the Emperor- see it there? He spray painted the whole thing with spray primer, then used electric and duct tape to finish it. It was so great I really hated to see it smashed...

Little Master C (3) found this very sturdy piece of wood on the curb, and he said I could use it to make a light saber to hit the pinata with. I spray painted it red, then used duct and electric tape to wrap the handle. (I asked Master C's mom if he could take it home after the party, for he and his little brother to play with, and she said no for some reason. I can't imagine why...)

B hung the Death Star with some little Lego planets up in front of a big black fleece blanket so I could take pictures of all the kids (which I of course forgot to do...). It looked pretty cool!

Honey Wheat Bread...

I like making my own bread. Especially here in Guam. I don't know if they freeze all the bread for shipping? But something makes the bread here, that I have tried at least, taste sort of like styrofoam. B gave me a kitchen aid mixer for Mother's Day last year, and with that, I find making bread quite easy and satisfying. Here is my fairly healthy honey wheat recipe:

3 T yeast
4 c warm water
3/4 c honey
10 c wheat flour
3 t sea salt
1/2 c flax seed meal
-Mix yeast, water, honey. Let live.
-Add all flour, mix.
-Add flax and salt. Mix, then let knead for six minutes.
-Dough will be sticky. Cover and let rise 15 minutes. Punch down well, divide into three loaves, put into sprayed pans. Let rise 30 minutes.
-Bake at 400 for 10 minutes, then turn oven down to 325 for 30 minutes. (I put a pan of water in the oven during baking.)

Miss L's Quilt (Finally)...

One of our best ever friends is Miss L, our next door neighbor girl back in Florida. She is so sweet, and my girls love her so much, that I decided to make Miss L a quilt to remember us by. (I decided this in, oh, about December, last year...) I bought fabric that I thought would suit her and match her room, I cut rectangles out, organized them how I wanted them... and stopped. (In my defense, we did move to the other side of the planet...) So when Grandma was here, she kindly sewed them up, then I borrowed some quilt frames and got some help from friends, and tied it up!

It looks great, if I do say so myself... Now, I have this idea to embroider the girls' hand prints on one of the squares. Wouldn't that be great? Except I don't know really how to embroider... So Poor Miss L will probably be waiting a while longer for her quilt, by the time I figure that out, then figure out how to bind it...

Miss A Turns Six...

I can't believe it! This little girl, so tiny, is now...

SIX YEARS OLD! Crazy. (In more ways than one!) (She was "helping" me test some birthday cake frosting...)

Playground...

Base housing is good to us. We love our house, don't pay utilities, are surrounded by lots of little kids, and everywhere you look, there are playgrounds! The girls and I met the Masters C at one the other day...

They played on the spinny things,

Jumped off stuff,

Played three billy goats gruff on the bridge...

And got good and tired. Love it!

The Patio of My Dreams...

Here in base housing, it is the thing to do to put up these huge tarp canopies over the back patio. B got ours done with the help of his dad, and I love it!

It, you know, rains here. A lot. So I am sooo excited to be able to still send the girls out, and go out myself. We have their sandbox, which I finally filled with sand, that they love to play with. And B and I love to go sit out under the tarp at night, and listen to the rain fall. A lot.
